Khajuraho- March 27,2010

Slept in Delhi for a few hours and then boarded a plane to Khajuraho a small town where there are some really old super amazing and ornately carved temples celebrating the Hindi gods paid for by the Chandela rulers. When I say “old” I mean AD 900; yeah- see what I’m saying? And they are still standing. They are also well known because the carvings on the outside of the temples, capture all aspects of human life, hunting, fighting, ruling and yes, having all kinds of sex! Major erotica; even tantric sex- my guide points out the various positions quite humorously and tells me that some show that the appetites, like sex, must be controlled while others believe this is not possible so why not let the appetites flow. And I thought this was a fairly new debate! The gods all have goddesses to bring out the best in and balance them; each sculpture shows real human emotion, facial expressions of all types, very cool.

Northern India- March 26, 2010

I’m in India! Yay! I wanted to go and now I am here. I love when that happens. First thing I notice when I am talking to my driver in the Delhi airport. I start talking in a weird, kind of soft, halted but girly and deferential way. I find myself speaking with this strange little accent. Whatzup with that? Does anybody else do that? I guess I am trying to blend, not offend? It’s funny. I always do it whenever I get to a foreign county. I also noticed that I am one of those folks that gets stumped at least for a day or two by the conversion rate- I get it, then I lose it. My driver (a young beautiful looking kid)looked at my website so he would know what I looked like when he picked me up- Delhi airport is a circus. First thing he asks, “You went to Obama’s school, do you know him?” When I say yes, he is elated. “I love him I love the man; I’m worried that is trying to do too much and make everyone happy, but I have to say I love him!” Of course he’s talking to the right person.
