Blue City _Jodhpur

Jodhpur (the Blue City), the second largest city in Rajasthan, founded by Roa Jodha in 1459 A.D. The city has 7 gates and 7 bastions. Lots of cows too. We found out that the cows all belong to someone- they are fed in the morning and then let out to roam. People feed them throughout the day; this is considered good thing to do. Then at the end of the day, yes, that’s right, the cows find their way home. I love it.

Jodhpur is called the blue city because they paint the buildings (especially in the old town) blue to make the sandstone cooler. The highlight was yet another cool fort (Mehrangarh) and the palace within, as well as a museum. The architecture was amazing. The museum was quite something, with displays of all the many weapons, turbans, royal cribs, elephant seats, etc. you name it.

Some of the gang

We also saw Jaswant Thada – a white marble cenotaph- mausoleum built by Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of Maharja Jaswant Singh II. These folks get serious about where they cremate and bury their love ones. Gorgeous.

Here i am with my new friend, Marion, from Dubai posing infront of it
